During the period of the crisis the short-term rental of apartments saved many families who were confronted with huge taxes including the ENFIA real estate tax.
Undoubtedly short-term rentals in Greece and other countries that are tourist destinations have become a dynamic sector of the economy as they are the result of the increase in tourism and the need to accommodate the rising number of tourists.
That does not mean, however, that the short-term rentals market should be unregulated.
That does not mean that one should not put a brake on a two-tier system of hotel and apartments accommodations and taxation.
What is needed is a registry of accommodations and the establishment of a number of regulations that will determine the rental framework and specifications and ensure the safety of renters.
