GREEK TOURISM

We hastily opted for a “return to normalcy”, prompted by the triumphs of Greece’s “heavy industry” – tourism. Politics, however, is judged by its long-term results.

Undoubtedly, the Greek economy’s good Q1 performance is based on exports and in part on domestic consumption, which reflects its dynamic and endurance.

The scientific committee in tandem with the PM has approved a timetable for the gradual lifting of shop shutdown and of restrictive measures in restaurants, bars, and other establishments.

Just as one plans a vacation so too must the tourism sector plan its services based on the conditions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.

The government’s move to offer support is certainly appropriate. The tourism industry is in the midst of a crisis even as the country overall is exiting the crisis..
