Energy costs have doubled and in some cases tripled for households and businesses since a year ago and the situation has literally battered a huge percentage of Greek households.

The government’s initiatives to limit the repercussions and to protect citizens’ standard of living are in the right direction. They require speed, planning, and flexibility to absorb the new, burdensome shocks.

Hatzidakis said that for PPC to be viable in the coming year possibly over 900mn euros will be required.

The continual burden on the taxpayer’s shoulder reminds us that the plan to clean up PPC cannot be placed on their shoulders in its entirety.

One such hot potato is banks’ non-performing loans (NPLs) and another is the Public Power Corporation (PPC).

PPC needs two billion euro to be saved. Where will it find this huge sum to ensure its viability?
