PUBLIC HEALTH MEASURES

We hastily opted for a “return to normalcy”, prompted by the triumphs of Greece’s “heavy industry” – tourism. Politics, however, is judged by its long-term results.

We, on our own, must protect the people among us who are more vulnerable, who are not just elderly people, and often one cannot distinguish those who have ailments that put the at risk.

The seasonal temperature drop is a negative factor in dealing with the pandemic, as people now gather together indoors, and Christmas may turn out to be nightmarish.

Wherever there has been a delay in vaccination, we see a return to the situation of an over-burdened National Health System, deaths, and painful results for those who have fallen ill.

If we all religiously abide by existing public health measures that have been announced when we visit a restaurant, cafeteria, or shop it will be possible to check transmission of the virus.

A small act of carelessness could further burden the National Health System. Major misdeeds such as large parties and wedding banquets are almost criminal.

However strong bonds of family and friendship may be and however great our love of tradition it is necessary to celebrate Easter in a different manner this year – in a very closed circle and without the gatherings
