The restoration of the prestige and credibility of institutions is one of the top priorities of the new government.

Never since the fall of the seven-year dictatorship, in 1974, have the institutions of democracy been exposed to such strong pressures from the executive.

The leadership of the justice ministry had pre-announced the prosecution of politicians stemming from the Novartis scandal. Another minister told a SYRIZA party organ that “some people have to be put in jail for us to win the elections.”
